Bernie Winter personifies the perpetual student who proactively parlayed her achievements into career opportunities. For three years now, as a retiree, she has put that (plus a good dose of intellectual curiosity) to work at Career Resource Center as a volunteer Database Management specialist.
Bernie graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Accounting. Her first job as Bookkeeper for Thrall Car Co. in Chicago ended when she had her first child. Bernie was a devoted stay-at-home mom until school teaching called. Upon receiving her teaching certificate, she taught while taking Library Science courses to become a school librarian. While working as librarian, Bernie earned her M.A. in Library Science and had a 27-year career as Head Librarian of all 80 K-12 schools in Rockford.
After a 3-year library computerization of Temple BJBE, Bernie called the Lake Forest Volunteer Bureau looking for new computer work. They recommended CRC. It was a good match-up! Bernie now volunteers her time to input new clients in the database and update other computer data for CRC activities.
